SILHOUETTE MODELS
The Silhouette models assignment introduced us to the world of the model making in a professional way.
What about the assignent
It consisted in re-design an existing product by using 3D drawing and by creating many models to understand if it could work or solve some problems of the original one. We had about two weeks to define the final product. I chose the dish soap from a selection of things on a table. In the end, the object should be functional and useful. To achieve that aim we made many simple section models out of cardboard. Then we had to elaborate a detailed section model to understand the shape in a better way. After that, we started redrawing every single section in Rhino in order to prepare the file for the laser cut, that allows us to get a perfect section model.
The material used in this case was the 1,5 mm thick black cardboard. In the end, we had to create a surface model with the 1mm thick Finnish cardboard. To save time I laser cut the internal sections. The whole process helped us to analyze thoroughly the shape and define an accurate product. My final product is shaped in order to simplify the way the dishes are washed. This dish soap is designed to dose the detergent that is often wasted and it can be used with just one hand.
